A film by Gary Gibson, Canine Behavior Professional
Gary and his wife Kathy travelled to 70 dog parks throughout B.C. talking to dog owners about why we need to reform our unfair B.C. dog laws. We managed 1000 B.C. Signatures and I want to say THANKS B.C.!
We need another 1000 signatures to get this to the B.C. Legislature in the fall and we can change the B.C. unfair Animal Laws that are killing dogs in B.C.
For the past 40 years Mr. Gibson worked as a canine behaviour professional and trainer with thousands of clients so that they may better understand, manage and overcome behaviour and aggression issues affecting their dogs.
Gary has been vetted and employed extensively in municipalities throughout BC. On 40 occasions Mr Gibson helped dog guardians to avoid trial by successfully negotiating with municipalities to send their dogs home with conditions to live out their natural lives.
Further, Mr. Gibson has been declared an expert in the field of canine behavior, canine aggressive behaviour and “the Pit Bull Terrier” by BC judges during 24 trials.
Throughout his career Mr. Gibson trained Animal Control and Bylaw Officers, BC SPCA volunteers and staff, and three levels of government employees in dealing with canine behaviors. Gary has also contributed to Animal Sciences curricula on aggressive dog behaviours at Douglas College (Coquitlam and New Westminster campuses), and Thompson Rivers University.
In Gary’s words: “It is clear to me that most people in these fields want to do their best for the animals; however, their expertise is often seriously lacking when it comes to ‘aggressive’ and challenging behaviors in dogs. Dogs are not aggressive, the behaviour is aggressive.
I produced this documentary to call attention to British Columbia’s double-edged animal control system. While our current laws are meant to protect the public, they can also harm innocent dogs and their families. "
They Took My Dog explores the disconnect between appropriate qualifications for canine assessment and the excessive power currently given to animal control Authorities to make life and death decisions regarding dogs.
Mr. Gibson’s film, and a petition to the BC Legislature for reforming companion animal laws needs your help. Please sign his petition above and add your voice for change 🙏 🐾
